I'm so glad you found me! I'm a San Francisco photographer, and this blog charts my journey in the ever-evolving world of photography. One of the things I love about photography is that it's a journey, not a destination. I'm constantly learning and meeting wonderful people. Please peruse the blog to your heart's content, then check out my website and feel free to contact me! (I love hearing from you.)

Alamo Square

A classic San Francisco shot, I couldn't help taking this as the light was just so good.

I'm undecided about that light splotch in the middle, I could have fixed it in Lightroom, but I decided it gave the photo a bit of quirkiness.

Also, a great time-lapse video of Vancouver: the clouds are amazing!

And I'm jonesing for some of these brownies, right now.

And if you have a couple of hours to burn, check out Syl Arena's roundup of videos about great photographers. I've only managed to watch the Richard Avedon videos so far, but I'm looking forward to fitting in the rest.

  1. I love your classic take of the city and the way the light makes the houses glow...I would have never really taken notice of that light spot if you hadn't pointed it out! The city scape backdrop w/ those gorgeous clouds is just awesome!

  2. Wow that shot is infamous, and you did a great job. If you are worried about the light spot, you might even lighten the rest a bit to match it. The details you captured are wonderful. I didnt get to see it when I was there. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Oh no, I seem to be in the minority. That "light splotch" was the first thing I noticed and I absolutely love it.

  4. No, definitely keep the light splodge in. It drew my eye to those lovely classical houses and makes a definte contrast between them and the high rise modern buildings in the background. A really striking image, well done!

  5. Don't dare do anything more with that light, it makes a statement from on high, and is so fittinh. I have to ask Is It HDR, it has the hallmarks.

  6. Nope Ron, not HDR, I have no patience for that, too much time in post processing for me, plus I hate the halos. The light was really just that beautiful, about 10 minutes before sunset facing east.

  7. And thanks for all your comments, I think I'll keep that light splotch in.

  8. You sure captured a great moment! The lighting is superb. Love that 'splotch', caught my eye first thing. IMO, it's a once in a lifetime moment. I actually found the sky to be a little distracting from the lighting that was over the city. But, that's just me.

  9. BTW, watched the Vancouver video and loved it! Such dreamy effects. I'm not big on watching videos, but I watched the whole thing and shared it on FB.

  10. I love the lighting and I'm so jealous! There were about 200 tourists in the photo I took from almost that same spot!! Yours is beautiful.

  11. San Francisco is one of the places on my wish list to go. It is just so unique! I love your image, with old houses contrasting with skyscrapers.

  12. Those "painted ladies" benefit from the spotlight. I am glad you decided to leave it in. Fantastic skyline in the background...and I love the clouds....my favorite.

  13. That is GORGEOUS! Please don't "fix" that light in the center. This is a picture post card of San Francisco! AWESOME JOB as always!

  16. That light splotch makes the photo! The DH and I love San Francisco and visit just about every year - and I've never seen such a clear sky above Alamo Square! Perfect.
