I'm so glad you found me! I'm a San Francisco photographer, and this blog charts my journey in the ever-evolving world of photography. One of the things I love about photography is that it's a journey, not a destination. I'm constantly learning and meeting wonderful people. Please peruse the blog to your heart's content, then check out my website and feel free to contact me! (I love hearing from you.)

Balancing

If this bird can survive in San Francisco with only one leg, what are we all doing with our two legs?

  1. cool shot... How did you manage to take the shot without disturbing it? It is looking directly at you.... And did you take any side shots of the bird ?

  3. I find myself having a staring contest with the bird.
I love the shot, great colors, nice and sharp and well composed.

  4. Such survivors those pigeons, you caught such fabulous color in the neck. Bird eyes remind me how they are related to reptiles...

  5. Nice shot and also like the post below about after noon light.

In answer to your question, some people (or birds I guess) make the most of what they have and while others just complain.

  8. This bird actually looks like it really has one leg, but I have seen birds resting by standing on one foot. It took a little time to see that they really did have two.
You captured that beautiful shimmer of color on the bird's neck....

  9. Sriraam, this is the beauty of a telephoto lens . . . I wasn't all that close to the bird, so I didn't disturb it! I'm working on getting proficient with the longer focal lengths, and there are definite upsides when it comes to shooting animals.

And Esther, I also initially thought the leg was just up in his feathers somewhere, but I looked pretty closely and I don't think so.

Everyone else, thanks for the lovely comments!

  10. You definitely gave us something to think about here. I cannot get over his expression. It's almost like he is asking you that! Great Job.

  11. Jessica! Just goes to prove that nature is more in balance with their universe than we humans may be. He appears to be sitting, posing for you. Nice shot and colors.

  12. P.S. Not only is he missing one leg, he is also missing part of the other foot.
